Hello world! How ya doin'? ////DEVELOPEMENT It’s been one year since I released the first version of episode 1 of ‘A Long Journey.’ It started out as a buggy .exe file that my Mac users couldn’t use. It morphed into my first attempt at a flash game, all the way from writing to coding to creating the artwork. Along the way I met let’s players, Elias (my composer), and wonderful people who have been talking to me and helping me with this project. I’m glad you all pushed me to keep going, and not settling for something less than professional. The next episode (which is the full, gold-plated edition of episode 1 (the one I promised a year ago but couldn't deliver)) will be released in February. I have 40 % of the coding left, and then the cutscenes. As I’ve released two more times, I’ve learned a lot about the game experience. Perhaps two extremely good guildlines: 1) a game is not great because of the general idea; it is great because of how well all the detail harmonize. Also, 2) never show anything you’re not showing your best work. I also learned the importance of an art style and keeping about building up, not tearing down everything each time to start over. Since mid-December, I’ve been working 14 hour days on creating the series, especially in studying bishonen-style artwork. If you look at that redesigns section, Warrick looks much better proportioned and for the first time, I feel like I’m not settling with this character. That reminds me, I should tell you my plan. I plan on releasing at least another 10 episodes before May arrives. These will be AIR files (Basically, they are more sophisticated SWF files), or you can play them online on the official website. With the hardest parts of the artwork for the most part settled (the main characters Warrick and Auferre), I’m thinking the process will be picking up speed. We’ll see. ////RE-DESIGNS AND CONCEPT ARTWORK ////THE HEART OF DORIAN-GRAY The other day, someone remembered that I had once launched a Kickstarter for a game called “The Heart of Dorian-Gray.” It tickled me a bit. Working on that Kickstarter and this game slowed development down so much, so I have put it to the side. If anyone is wondering, yes, I will continue it, but only after I’ve made ‘A Long Journey’ as good as I can.
That’s all for me folks! If you have any thoughts, questions, concerns, let me know in the comments below. :D BYE! ~Rox
